Reef Daytripper

OUR COMMITMENT TO CARBON OFFSETTING

At Reef Daytripper we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, generated by our vessels, administrative supports, staff commuting, waste, and daily operations.

We aim to achieve this through tree-planting initiatives such as Reforest, which is a Brisbane-based social enterprise helping businesses take action through high-quality tree-planting reforestation projects, delivered via personalised and engaging campaigns.

Reforests global impact spans five continents with over 53 active projects and 169 businesses committed to fostering change through conservation and restoration.

Reforest has successfully achieved:

Green plant icon with leaves and stem on a light background. Over 8.3 million trees planted

Two brown paw prints on a white background. Restoring over 9,073.3 hectares of native habitat

Simple blue cloud icon on a white background.Removed over 466.8 kilotons of CO2

Being owner-operated means we take an active interest in the safety and well being of our customers, and our crew are considered a part of our family. We take great pride in delivering enthusiastic and friendly hospitality to our guests. We aim to visit two sites (weather permitting), allowing plenty of time to snorkel, scuba dive or just simply relax in the bow nets on the boat.

Reef Daytripper is proud to be part of sustainable action that will effect change for Australia’s climate and ecosystems.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE OPERATIONS

As an operator travelling to the Great Barrier Reef on a daily basis, we are aware that our presence will have an impact, and as such we aim to mitigate our influence on the environment by:

  • Banning all single-use plastic on board
  • Serve as reef custodians through enforced no-touch, no-take policies at our Upolu Reef Sites
  • Recycle all cans and plastic bottles from each trip via Containers for Change
  • Minimise waste through sustainable ordering practices & using local suppliers
  • And avoid printing where possible.

At Reef Daytripper we feel the best way to effect change is to show-and-tell our guests why they should care about the Great Barrier Reef and advocate for its longevity. We do this through educational materials, reef talks, and guided snorkel tours.

Here is a link to our Great Barrier Reef Compendium, which is a compilation of interesting facts about the marine life we frequently encounter at our Upolu Reef sites, and important information regarding the health of the Great Barrier Reef: Great Barrier Reef Compendium pdf

Compendiums are also available on board for our guests to peruse throughout the tour.

Reef Daytripper is committed to providing our guests and crew an environment where social and cultural sustainability is at the forefront of our operations.

Key components of our commitment to social and cultural sustainability include:

  • Prioritising the health and well-being of our crew and guests via policies and planning that ensures we meet a high standard of safety at all times.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with membership organisations, local councils, peak tourism bodies and government bodies to ensure we maintain a high level of safety and customer service.
  • Actively engaging with local businesses to maintain our daily operations, and to ensure we are supporting local suppliers.
  • Supporting community groups and businesses through charitable donations.
  • Recognising the correct indigenous groups and acknowledging their connection to Upolu Reef.
